Alexei Kervezee and Matt Pardoe both starred with the bat at Kidderminster as Worcestershire were all out for 275 on the first day of their two day friendly match against Gloucestershire, who in reply were 2-2 at stumps.
Worcestershire chose to bat first but by the 4th over they were 7-2, with both Daryl Mitchell (2) and Moeen Ali (5) back in the pavilion. Tilan Samaraweera, making his Worcestershire debut, scored 13 before he was the third wicket to fall and when Neil Pinner was out for 2 the home side were in trouble at 43-4 in the 24th over.
Pardoe and Michael Johnson took the score to 62-4 off 29 overs at lunch and then in the afternoon session Johnson was out for 16, with the home side on 89-5 in the 38th over. Worcestershire then fought back as Pardoe and Kervezee batted through the rest of the session, as Pardoe reached his 50 off 119 balls whilst Kervezee got to his 50 off 50 balls, to take Worcestershire to tea on 194-5 off 64 overs.
In the final session their sixth wicket partnership ended on 135 when Pardoe was out for a solid 91 off 217 balls, with 11 fours and 1 six, but Kervezee went on to reach his century, with a 6 which went to the railway line. Although Kervezee was out with his next delivery it was a brilliant knock of 102 off 120 balls, with 14 fours and 2 sixes.
Then from 238-7, in the 75th over, the innings lasted a further 16 overs as Gareth Andrew (4), Shaaiq Choudhry (17) and Richard Jones (11) were the last three wickets to fall and Worcestershire were dismissed for 275 off 90.4 overs. For the visitors Jack Taylor (2-49), Liam Norwell (2-53) and David Payne (2-55) were the bowlers who took more than one wicket.
Gloucestershire then had 3 overs to face and Chris Russell took the wickets of both Chris Dent (1) and Dan Housego (0) in consecutive balls as the visitors ended the day on 2-2.
Gloucestershire, resuming on 2-2, lost their third wicket in the second over of the day as Alan Richardson dismissed Gareth Roderick (1) and then the fourth wicket fell at 25 when the visiting captain Hamish Marshall (5) fell to Gareth Andrew.
Then in the last over before lunch Richardson took the wickets of both Benny Howell (15) and Richard Coughtrie (0) to reduce the visitors to 74-6 at lunch.
After lunch Alex Gidman and Jack Taylor frustrated the Worcestershire bowlers with a seventh wicket stand of 91, which ended when Gidman was out to Andrew for 99 off 131 balls, with 18 fours.
Taylor departed soon afterwards for 40, with the score on 168-8, and then David Payne (0) and James Fuller (2) were the last two wickets to fall as Gloucestershire were all out for 178 off 51.2 overs.
Andrew (4-27) was the leading wicket-taker for Worcestershire, with the other wickets taken by Richardson (3-22), Chris Russell (2-44) and Moeen Ali (1-10).
Worcestershire began their second innings after tea and when the two teams shook hands at 5:30pm the home side were 133-0 off 36 overs, with Daryl Mitchell retiring on 54 off 80 balls, with 9 fours, Matt Pardoe on 49 off 90 balls, with 8 fours and 1 six, and Ali on 27 off 46 balls, with 5 fours.
