WORCESTERSHIRE v NETHERLANDS REPORT
Worcestershire were beaten by six wickets against the Netherlands in the Yorkshire Bank 40 match at New Road.
The visitors won the toss and decided to field and after a lengthy delay due to rain the match finally got underway at 5pm, with the match reduced to 18 overs per side.
Viv Kingma had given the visitors the perfect start when Moeen Ali (0) turned the second ball of the innings straight to Ahsan Malik at short fine-leg and it soon became 9-2 when Kingma got Alexei Kervezee (6) to edge behind to Wesley Barresi.
Captain Daryl Mitchell (7) was bowled by slow left-armer Pieter Seelaar, with the score on 25-3, and when Tom Fell, who made his List A debut for Worcestershire, was run out from the non striker’s end for 2 the home side were struggling at 28-4 in the 8th over.
Then the collapse continued as Aneesh Kapil (0) was bowled second ball, by a turning delivery from Seelaar, before Ben Cox was run out for 4 to leave Worcestershire on a dismal 35-6 in the 11th over.
Tilan Samaraweera (47*) and Brett D’Oliveira (16*) then steadied the ship for Worcestershire by putting on an unbeaten seventh wicket partnership of 55 in 45 balls as the home side finished on 90-6 off their 18 overs.
In reply the Dutch lost Stephan Myburgh, lbw to Ali for 13, and Barresi, caught behind by Cox off Alan Richardson for 6, with the score on 21-2 in the 6th over but a quick 25 off 19 balls from Daan van Bunge put the visitors back on track until D’Oliveira struck twice in an over by removing both van Bunge, caught by Mitchell at square-leg, and captain Peter Borren, caught by Chris Russell at deep square-leg for 8, to make it 60-4 in the 11th over.
But Tom Cooper (29*) then produced a magical contribution for the Dutch by hitting two fours off Russell and then successive fours off Jack Shantry to give the visitors their first win in the YB40 this season by six wickets with 14 balls to spare.
