CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 1

After the first day's play at Barnsley Worcestershire were 109-7 in their first innings in reply to Yorkshire's 224 all out.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat and after an opening stand of 51 Chris Russell got the breakthrough when he trapped Joe Sayers lbw for 22 and then 4 runs later Alex Lees, the other opening batsman, was also lbw to Nick Harrison for 24. Yorkshire lost a third wicket before lunch, thanks to Russell, as they reached 102-3, and in the afternoon session Adil Rashid made 53 before he was bowled by Richard Jones and Russell took his third wicket, with the score on 179-5.

Rain then curtailed proceedings, with the score on 182-5, for 40 minutes and after an early tea was taken the players were back on the field with Russell taking 3 further wickets, to end up with 6-75 off 19 overs, as Yorkshire collapsed from 198-5 to 224 all out off 67.4 overs. Harrison had figures of 1-15 off 7 overs, Shaaiq Choudhry took 1-40 off 13.4 overs, Jones was 1-50 off 15 overs and Alan Richardson finished on 0-34 off 13 overs.

In reply Worcestershire lost both Jack Manuel (6) and Alexei Kervezee (2) off Steven Patterson in the first 11 overs, with the score on 27. Matt Pardoe and Neil Pinner put on 50 for the third wicket until the introduction of Rashid paid off when Pinner was lbw for 16 and along with Gurman Randhawa the spin duo swung the match back in Yorkshire's favour as Worcestershire lost Joe Leach (2), Choudhry (0), Harrison (7) and Russell (0) in the last 11 overs of the day to leave the visitors trailing by 115 runs at stumps, with Pardoe still at the crease on 72 off 102 balls.

DAY 2

Worcestershire fought back on the second day at Barnsley as they recovered to 260 all out in their first innings and reduced Yorkshire to 139-6 in their second innings, with the home side ahead by 103 runs.
