Bat's Top Tip

Fast Bowling - I'm familiar with the principles of fast bowling but I thought I would get some real expertise from my new teammate and 2005 Ashes super star Simon Jones.

"Brute power and speed is what you need in the first instance, try running as fast as you possibly can and getting your arm over as quickly and powerfully as possible and therefore hitting the wicket hard. This can then be tweaked over time to get the right line and length but you need the speed first. So for now throw accuracy out the window and get some speed up!!" (S Jones, 2008)

Bat's Top Tip

SPIN - The challenge of spinning the ball and it ending up where you want it to! Well to be honest it is a skill that is developed over time. The first thing you need to do is just spin it as hard as you possibly can, use all the power and force you have and this will create the swerve and dip as well as the spin. Accuracy comes with practice so don't beat yourself up if this doesn't come straight away - it's the brute power you need to get the hang of first!

The cricket season is now in full swing and all the guys are really happy to be back at New Road. Although the weather hasn't been too good so  far, it's been great to see so many of you back at the ground cheering us on!!

As many of you will know, one of the benefits of being a JNR Royals member is the opportunity to become our match day Mascot. To mark the first Friends Provident Trophy match of the season it was the turn of Christopher Brookes from Worcester to represent the team! It was a pleasure to meet Christopher and see what a big Royals fan he is. Please check out our photo gallery to see more pictures of Christopher’s Big Day and some of the players he met!

Our next Mascots are going to be Barney and Jake Williams. Barney and Jake will be joining the team for the Friends Provident match against Glamorgan on Monday 5th May. So keep checking the website for details of their day and who they met.

REMEMBER – The only way to be our mascot is by joining as a JNR Royals member!! JOIN ONLINE NOW

Earlier on in the week we were joined by JNR Royals Member Joshua Myhill the lucky winner of our 2007 Christmas Cracker Competition. Out of over 500 JNR Royals, Joshua’s name was drawn out of the hat by JNR Royals Captain Gareth Batty to win an iPod Nano, generously donated by Apollo 2000.  Joshua received the good news when his Christmas card from the players came through his letter box.

The presentation was made by Commercial Director David Leatherdale who joined Joshua and his dad in the Club Shop. Both Joshua and his dad were impressed at how the ground was looking, David explained about all the hard work which has been done by the ground staff here at WCCC  over the winter months to get the pitch ready for 2008.

To kick start the launch of our JNR Royals website we ran a competition to win a bat signed by Simon Jones. Simon was impressed to see how many people entered the competition and how many of you answered correctly.

The winner of the competition was 9 year old JNR Royal Alistair Smith. He was so pleased to receive his early Christmas present and is looking forward to seeing his hero in action!

During the October half term, Ben and I organized a week of junior cricket coaching at the King’s School indoor facility. We spent the week working on all different areas of cricket and also played a few fun games along the way.  If you missed out on the October half term coaching course don’t worry, we had such a great time with the 30 kids that signed up and it was ace seeing such young talent and how much improvement they made over the week, that we’ve decided to run another coaching session!!The next session will be on Saturday 22nd December & Sunday 23rd December, if you’re interested in improving your batting, bowling and fielding then this might be a great Christmas present idea!!
