Match Report
Surrey won the toss and elected to field first in the second Clydesdale Bank 40 match at New Road with the home side hoping for a better performance after the opening match against Sussex.
Worcestershire made 235-7 in their 40 overs allocation. Phil Jaques top scored with a fine innings of 78 from 65 deliveries. James Cameron, playing in only his second List A match was left unbeaten on 48* at the end to help Worcestershire set a fairly competitive total.
Pakistani international Iftikhar Anjum took 3-39 for the visitors.
In reply Steve Davies provided the impetus for Surrey’s innings with a dominant innings of 81 in just 55 balls including 12 boundaries. Despite taking the wickets of Rory Hamilton Brown and Mark Ramprakash relatively cheaply it was the innings of Davies that kept Surrey in control of the match. A third wicket stand of 85 with Usman Afzaal (51*) kept the visitors well ahead of the Duckworth / Lewis target at all times with the threat of rain always present throughout the innings.
By the end of the 31st over Surrey were 191-3 when a combination of rain and bad light caused the early finish to the innings with Surrey winning the match by 30 runs by the Duckworth / Lewis method.
Surrey (191-3. 31 overs) beat Worcestershire (235-7. 40 overs) by 30 runs D/L method.
