Match Report
Worcestershire Royals named an unchanged team for the Twenty/20 match against a strong Nottinghamshire Outlaws side at New Road. David Hussey won the toss for the visitors and elected to field first in dark, overcast conditions at New Road.

In contrast to the first match Worcestershire struggled with the bat against some disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. Dirk Nannes took 2-18 in his opening 3 over spell with his opening partner Ryan Sidebottom taking 0-10 in his opening 2 overs. In doing so, Nannes became the first player to take 100 career Twenty/20 wickets.

One highlight for the Royals was Phil Jaques reaching 1,000 career Twenty/20 runs but overall it was not a good day for the Worcestershire batsmen. At one stage Moeen Ali (15) and Steve Smith (19) threatened a recovery with a 4th wicket stand of 29 before they were both dismissed within 5 balls of each other as they tried to up the scoring rate.

At one stage the Royals were 78-8 and looked like they would not even complete their 20 overs. Gareth Andrew top scored with an unbeaten 23*, including three consecutive sixes off the final three balls of the innings as Worcestershire reached 113-9 in their 20 overs.

The Nottinghamshire bowlers bowled accurately as a unit, not allowing any batsmen to get settled. Steven Mullaney in particular produced a fine effort with 3-12 in his 4 over allocation.

With the bad light conditions Nottinghamshire were keen to keep the run rate high and set about chasing down the modest target quickly. Despite the loss of an early wicket a 2nd wicket stand of 63 between Alex Hales and Matthew Wood (22) in under seven overs meant that Nottinghamshire were never in trouble. Steve Smith took 2-20 in his 4 over spell including two wickets in consecutive balls.

Worcestershire’s fielding was not quite as sharp as their opponents with a couple of chances going down but conditions were far from ideal, taking nothing away from an all round strong display from the Outlaws.

Nottinghamshire reached their target with the loss of just 4 wickets with 6 overs to spare. Alex Hales was unbeaten on 66* with a 49 ball innings containing 11 boundaries.

Worcestershire (113-9) lost to Nottinghamshire (114-4) by 6 wickets with 6 overs to spare.
