Worcestershire CCC Academy player Ollie Westbury made a debut to remember in Western Australia for Hay Park.
Westbury scored 69 and picked up three wickets as reigning champions Hay Park triumphed by 48 runs over last year's T20 finalists Leschenault in an Bunbury and District Cricket Association 20 over match.
The opening batsman is Down Under for the winter and Academy coach Elliot Wilson believes it will be a "great learning experience" for the player.
Second Eleven coach Kevin Sharp helped to set up the move as one of the former Shropshire players he used to coach – Jono Whitney – is now captain of Hay Park.
Westbury hit five fours in his 65 ball knock as Hay Park scored 131-2 in their 20 overs and he achieved the highest individual score of the round of matches.
He shared in a stand of 97 with Ross Knoll (47) before finally being caught in the deep off Leschenault skipper Brody D'Agastino.
Westbury's occasional right arm off spin then brought him the excellent figures of 3-11 from three overs as Leschenault were bowled out for 83. Westbury came on third change and ripped out the middle order.
Amongst those watching his fine performance were former Worcestershire and England spinner Jack Birkenshaw.
Wilson said: "Ollie will be playing in Australia all winter and it will be a tremendous experience for him.
"Playing over there for the winter will be a huge help in his – and anyone's – development."
Westbury, who plays club cricket for Himley, has completed his education at Shrewsbury School – former Worcestershire player Paul Pridgeon is the cricket professional – and he has enjoyed a superb season with the bat.
He became the first player since current England batsman James Taylor to score a 1,000 runs in a season and that tally included six centuries.
Westbury made his breakthrough into the Worcestershire Seconds this summer and achieved his maiden century in the Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Notts Sports Club.
He was also selected to play for an England Development Programme Invitational X1 against Australia Under-19s in a two-day match at Loughborough.
Westbury was initially part of the Academy intake for 2014-2015 and is one of the players also selected for the 2015-2016 intake.
