Academy Recover To Triumph Over Raf At New Road

Academy Recover To Triumph Over Raf At New Road

The Worcestershire Academy defeated the Royal Air Force by 65 runs in a 40 over match today at New Road.

A fine sixth wicket stand of 150 between Nick Hammond and Ollie Westbury rescued the Academy after they had elected to bat.

Joe Peatman did the early damage for the RAF as he sent back Alex Milton (1), Tom Hope (7), Jamie Harris (11) and Darrel Williams (1) in reducing the Academy to 44-4 in the 12th over.

Peatman returned the excellent figures of 4-28 from his eight overs.

Will Fraine (29) was fifth out at 75 but then Hammond and Westbury revived the Academy's fortunes.

Graeme Cessford bowled Hammond for 90 which came off 77 balls with two sixes and 12 fours.

Westbury finished unbeaten on 75 from 67 balls with three sixes and seven fours as the Academy reached 240-6.

Cessford finished with figures of 1-41 off eight overs and the other wicket-taker was Mitchell Harris who took 1-31 off eight overs.

In reply the RAF lost two early wickets to Liam Smith (1-18 off six overs) and Mikesh Patel with the score on 14.

Cessford, batting at number four, scored 14 with three fours, before he was dismissed by Patel (2-27 off eight overs) in the 12th over, to leave the visitors on 43-3.

The RAF never threatened to reach their target and, with further wickets by Hope (2-23 off eight overs), Harris (2-31 off five overs) and Malik (2-13 off two overs), the visitors ended on 175-9 with Jake Wray top-scoring with 45.
