Academy To Take On Ireland In Second Leg Of Treble Header

Worcestershire Academy will take on Ireland Under-19s tomorrow (Thursday) in the second part of their triple decker of matches this week.

The two sides shared the spoils in the two-day game at Stourbridge on Monday-Tuesday.

Now they will face each other in a 50 over match at Kidderminster’s Chester Road Ground (11am start).

Academy Coach Elliot Wilson said: “The two-day game was great in terms of the way the game was played, the attitude of the Irish towards it and our ability to go about our business the way we have done.

“We played it a bit like an old school Minor Counties game where we declared early and we ended up playing quite well on the second morning and bowling them out for a few less than we got.

“We then talked about having 50 overs each on the second day and in the last few overs of our innings we batted quite well and got ourselves to 280 when we were probably looking at 230-240.

“We got a couple of early wickets but they had partnerships and it became a bit of a stalemate in the end.

“But it was a very good experience for our lads in a game played very much in the right way.”
