Academy Wind Up Tri-Series Programme With Three-Dayer Against Northants

Worcestershire Academy take on their Northamptonshire counterparts in a Tri-Series three day game at Overstane Park CC starting tomorrow (Tuesday).

It will be their final Tri-Series game of the summer after participating in T20, 50 over and red ball matches which have also involved Leicestershire Academy.

The previous three-dayer – against the Foxes at Bromsgrove CC – ended in an exciting draw with Leicestershire closing on 240-8 after being set a 256 target.

Academy Coach Elliot Wilson, reflecting on that game, said: “On the first day we were a poor side. We got 270 and batted poorly and on the first evening we bowled really poorly and were way out of the game.

“Then we did really well. They were three down and level with our score but it was hard for them to get to our score because we bowled well and with control – and that control gave us our rewards later that day and we ended up bowling them out for 350.

“The two spinners got the rewards but Matty (Davis), Zain (Ul-Hassan) and Reicko (Parker-Cole) bowled well and with control and then we batted very well in the second innings with Callum (Lea) scoring a hundred and some real good contributions down the list.

“We went back to the cricket we had played on the first evening and in 10 overs before tea they were 60-0 which made the run chase really possible for them.

“They were well up with the rate and then a good run out, and Matty and Zain bowling well to get us back into the game, and the pressures of a run chase led to a few silly mistakes and we dragged it back to make sure we took a draw out of the game.”

Wilson has named a 13 strong squad for tomorrow’s game.
