Andrew Jenkins has been re-elected as chairman of the Worcestershire Supporters’ Association.
Jenkins took over the post after the sad death of Ken Mills 12 months ago.
He was re-elected for a further year at yesterday’s Annual General Meeting of the Association which was held in the McMinn Development Marquee.
Cynthia Crawford was re-elected as Association president and there is a new treasurer in the Reverend John Wright.
He has taken over from Andrew Jenkins who had replaced Ken Mills in an interim role.
Beforehand, the Association had held their annual summer lunch with more than 160 members and guests attending.
The customary raffle raised £595 and the Association would like to thank the generosity of members – and also the Worcestershire CCC catering department for producing another excellent lunch which was appreciated by all in attendance.
Andrew Jenkins, in his chairman’s report, said: “2016 was the year in which WCCSA lost its long serving and much loved chairman Ken Mills.
“Ken served Worcestershire County Cricket Supporters’ Association for many years as chairman and treasurer and it cannot be put into words the debt of gratitude the Association and the Cricket Club owe to him and his wife Pat.
“The Association also set up a Memorial Fund in Ken’s name and the accounts show the amount in that fund stood at £17,145,47p at the end of the 2016 financial year.
“I am sure by the time the fund closes at the end of 2017 that the figure will have risen considerably.
“This money, along with that from the Pat Mills Memorial Fund, will be combined and put towards financing the Association’s proposed new shop.
“This was a scheme Ken was fully in support of and he was involved in the negotiations right up until his untimely death.
“The committee have carried on the work of the Association and the annual Christmas lunch again proved very popular and was enjoyed by all present.
“The Fifty-Fifty competition continued to flourish and in 2016 more than 800 members participated.
“The shop at the rear of the D’Oliveira Stand continues to be the focal point for the Association on match days and again has shown a profit.
“It is hoped the new Association shop – and home for the Association – will be located on the Cathedral side of the ground if planning permission – and sufficient funds – are granted.
“Joe Leach was elected the Association’s Player Of The Year and received a cheque for £500. In future years the recipient will instead receive a trophy.
“I would like to thank the committee for their support and help following the death of Ken Mills.
“In particular I would like to mention Dave Kennedy who once again has worked tirelessly and, without his help and support, my job would have been much harder.”
