Another T20 Ton For Josh As Malvern Retain Chesterton Cup

Worcestershire CCC Academy player Josh Haynes completed a remarkable double as Malvern College retained the George Chesterton Cup at New Road.

Haynes scored a century in the final of the T20 competition for the second year running as Malvern defeated Dean Close School, Cheltenham by 159 runs.

Twelves months ago, Haynes had scored a 34 ball hundred in the final triumph over Wrekin College.

This time the 18-year-old smashed 118 not out off just 59 deliveries with six sixes and 13 fours as Malvern amassed 246-2 in 20 overs.

Oliver Garnett hit 76 off 47 balls and there was an unbeaten 24 from Josh's younger brother and fellow Academy product Jack.

Dean Close were then bowled out for 87 in 16.2 overs with Worcestershire CCC elite player group player duo Mahaaz Ahmed (2-20) and Callum Lea (2-15) amongst the wickets.

Lea had scored 83 off 72 balls with seven sixes as Malvern defeated King's Worcester in the semi-finals by six wickets

They chased down a 126 target with 5.1 overs to spare.

In the other semi-final Dean Close had defeated RGS Worcester – but they were no match for Malvern in the final.
