Ed Barnard and skipper Joe Leach took the honours for Worcestershire on day one of the two-day friendly with Gloucestershire at RGS Worcester.
Barnard scored an unbeaten half century and figured in an unbroken last wicket stand of 72 with George Rhodes as Worcestershire totalled 182-9 in their permitted 60 overs.
Former England Under-19 player Barnard finished unbeaten on 54 from 84 balls and he hit one six and seven fours.
Rhodes gave him defiant support in making 27 not out from 68 balls with three boundaries after the pair joined forces at 110-9.
Then Leach got to work with the ball and picked up three wickets as Gloucestershire closed on 85-4 from their allotted 30 overs.
The 26-year-old finished with 3-19 from his seven overs.
Worcestershire opted to bat at what is now their official back-up ground.
Openers Daryl Mitchell (3) and Brett D'Oliveira (7) both fell to Craig Miles, caught behind by Phil Mustard and at first slip by Cameron Bancroft respectively as the ball nipped around.
Tom Fell (5) was bowled after shouldering arms to Liam Norwell to leave Worcestershire on 15-3.
There was the heartening sight of Tom Kohler-Cadmore returning to action ahead of schedule after his shoulder operation at the end of February.
He went for nine and Ross Whiteley for 15 to provide Mustard with two further catches off Academy product Ollie Currill.
John Hastings and Ben Cox – in his first match since returning from MCC duty versus Middlesex in Abu Dhabi – added 35 for the sixth wicket.
Hastings (15) became the fourth victim of his former Durham team-mate Mustard after Miles returned to the attack.
Then Cox on 25 fell to the same bowler as he perished at deep backward square leg and Leach (6) was bowled by a ball that nipped back from Norwell.
Worcestershire used all of their batsmen with Alexei Kervezee (4) coming in at number ten and being trapped lbw by Tom Smith.
Worcestershire were then 110-9 but then came the strong resistance came from Barnard and Rhodes before the declaration after the stipulated 60 overs.
Gloucestershire were left with 30 overs to bat in the final session and they also found it a challenging task against Leach and Co.
Openers Cameron Bancroft and Chris Dent put on 25 but then four wickets fell for six runs.
Big Bash winner Bancroft (17) and Dent (10) were caught behind by Cox off Jack Shantry and Leach respectively.
Then Brandon Gilmour (2) and Ian Cockbain (2) were both lbw to Leach.
Phil Mustard and Benny Howell added an unbroken 54 for the fifth wicket as the day ended with honours even.
