Barnard to Captain England U15's

Following Aneesh Kapil's recent success in the England U19’s squad, Ed Barnard, currently in Worcestershire CCC’s Academy, has been chosen to not only represent England U15’s, but to captain them.

The 15 year old all-rounder from Shrewsbury is in his first year with the Academy, and excelled with both bat and ball during the 25th Bunbury Festival, which took place at Monmouth School in late July. The Bunbury Festival allows young talent across the country to shine, and standout performances warrant selection for the England U15 squad.

Barnard captained the Midlands team to victory in every one of their games during the tournament, and is hoping this new appointment will propel him to further success. He is already in good company, as the Festival has nurtured the talents of over 50 England Test players including current captain, Andrew Strauss.

Barnard’s England U15 selection will see him captain the team in two t20 matches against England Women on 5th August 2011 at NCPC Loughborough. Further exceptional performances here could lead to a highly sought-after place in the England Development Program during the winter.

Damian D’Oliveira, Academy Director, commented “I would like to congratulate Ed on his recent selection to captain England U15’s and on behalf of everybody at Worcestershire CCC wish him a successful tournament.”

The 14 man squad for the tournament includes:
Ed Barnard (captain)
Rob Jones (vice-captain)
Dominic Sibley
Anuj Dal
Lloyd Evans
Josh Shaw
Ryan Gibson
Barney Gibson
Harry Levy
Keiran Smith
Harvey Hosein
