BARNARD HELPS SCARBOROUGH TO SECURE FIRST INNINGS POINTS

Ed Barnard helped Scarborough to claim first innings points from their drawn Western Australia Cricket Association first grade two-day match with visiting Mount Lawley.

The Worcestershire all-rounder picked up two wickets as Mount Lawley were bowled out for 159 in their first innings and forced to follow on.

Barnard finished with overall figures of 17-7-29-2 to add to his 60 on the opening day out of Scarborough’s 309 all out in 74 overs.

He dismissed Mount Lawley captain Callum Taylor (24) and Luke Berendsen (2).

Barnard again took the new ball in Mount Lawley’s second innings and picked up the wicket of Dylan Sharman (19).

His final figures were 9-1-29-1 as Mount Lawley batted out time and finished on 139-3.

County batsman Ollie Westbury spent the opening day of Grafton United’s Auckland Premier Cricket Tom Hellaby Two-Day Championship match with Eden Roskill in the field.

Eden Roskill totalled 330-8 from 89 overs and Grafton reached 20-0 off nine overs by the close with Westbury due to bat on the second day next weekend.

Worcestershire all-rounder George Rhodes’ side, Onslow, are in a strong position to press for victory on the final day of the Rothbury Capital Premier Mens Hazlett Trophy clash with North City.

North City will resume in their second innings on 44-3 – still needing another 103 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

They were bowled out for 94 in their first innings and then Onslow replied with 241-7 declared with number three Rhodes dismissed for four.

Rhodes did not have the opportunity to bowl his off spin as the green-tinged wicket is ideally suited for seam bowlers.
