Ed Barnard impressed with the ball as Worcestershire claimed two bowling points on day one of the Specsavers County Championship clash with Leicestershire at New Road.
Former England Under-19 captain Barnard dismissed Paul Horton, had Angus Robson dropped and posed problems for Neil Dexter during an initial seven over burst before lunch.
He followed that up in the afternoon session by removing Robson and continued to beat the bat on a regular basis.
Then Barnard returned with the second new ball to account for Clint McKay as Leicestershire reached 299-7.
The 20-year-old was well supported by spinner Brett D'Oliveira, who claimed two wickets, while Jack Shantry bowled a typically tight and challenging spell.
But Leicestershire were held together by a splendid century from Neil Dexter – his second in successive innins.
Leicestershire opted to bat after winning the toss and Joe Leach gained an early moral victory when Robson edged just wide of the slip cordon.
Kyle Abbott on his Worcestershire Championship debut then produced a fine delivery which went past the outside edge of Horton's bat.
Barnard came into the attack at 31-0 after seven overs and his fifth delivery disposed of Horton (3).
Tom Kohler-Cadmore at first slip produced a superb head high catch after Horton had gone for a cut shot.
Robson on 27 survived a difficult chance to Leach off Barnard.
Then Dexter was fortunate to twice edge Barnard for four over and past the slips in one over.
Robson was first to his half century off 124 balls with nine fours with a single off Shantry.
Then from the next delivery Dexter brought up his fifty from 88 deliveries with 10 boundaries.
But Barnard had his reward when Robson (50) was caught low down by keeper Ben Cox with the total on 110-2 in the 40th over.
Robson and Dexter had added 79 in 32 overs.
Barnard had figures of 14-2-42-2 at the end of his two seven over spells.
Shantry and Barnard slowed the scoring rate and when D'Oliveira came back into the attack he got rid of Leicestershire skipper Mark Cosgrove.
He went on the back foot to attempt a cut and edged through to Cox standing up after making 28 and putting on 54 in 15 overs with Dexter.
D'Oliveira also had a pivotal role to play in the dismissal of Mark Pettini.
Dexter turned Abbott to D'Oliveira at point and set off for a single but Pettini (16) was stranded by a direct hit despite a desperate dive to try and make his ground.
Dexter brought up his 100 off 185 balls with seven fours to complete back to back tons after reaching three figures against Gloucestershire.
But on 109 Leach ended his fine knock when Cox standing up held onto his third catch of the innings.
D'Oliveira enjoyed a second success when Rob Taylor (9) drove into the hands of Shantry at extra cover.
Then Barnard came back for the second new ball – taken after 91.2 overs – and immediately had Clint McKay lbw for 19.
