Battle For Clarke And Whiteley As Lions Go Under

Battle For Clarke And Whiteley As Lions Go Under

Joe Clarke and Ross Whiteley were part of the England Lions side which found runs hard to come by as they were beaten by six wickets against Pakistan 'A' in the fourth 50 over match in Dubai today.

The Worcestershire duo batted at number six and seven respectively after the Lions had been put into bat.

Clarke came in at 119-4 in the 24th over and was dismissed for 14 off 28 balls at 147-6 in the 34th over, being caught at long on.

Whiteley went to the wicket at 134-5 in the 27th over and made 10 off 48 balls before, after battling to get the spinners away, he was ninth out at 175 in the 42nd over.

The Lions were eventually dismissed for 181 and Pakistan, after a stuttering start, reached their target with 3.3 overs to spare.

It means the series is heading for a decider at the same venue on Saturday with the series level at 2-2.

Openers, skipper James Vince (32) and Dawid Malan (56), gave the Lions an excellent platform. They put on 60 in just 10 overs.

But after that no other player managed to top 20.

The T20 series between the two countries last month also went to a deciding match and the Lions eventually triumphed via a Super Over in the fifth match.
