Ben Cox hit his third half century in four games for Greenvale Kangaroos and figured in the match winning stand with Worcestershire team-mate Jack Shantry against Casey-South Melbourne.
Melbourne were put into bat in the Victorian Premier Cricket Bartercard Men's Premier Firsts clash and were dismissed for 136 in 37.4 overs.
Cox picked up two catches and Shantry, who took the new ball, bowled six overs for a miserly 11 runs with two maidens.
The match was in the balance when Cox and Shantry joined forces with Greenvale 63-4.
But the fifth wicket pair figured in an unbroken partnership of 74 as their side triumphed with 22.1 overs to spare.
Cox finished unbeaten on 56 to add to his previous scores of 57, 93 and six with Shantry 17 not out and again making a useful contribution with the bat for the fourth successive innings with the Kangaroos.
Cox said: "We've had a good couple of partnerships so far, so hopefully we can continue with that and contribute with some heavy runs in the middle order. "
Richard Oliver's Geelong City began a two day match away to Geelong West who won the toss and closed the opening day on 240-8 from 85 overs.
Worcestershire opener and City skipper Oliver caught West's top scorer D. Vassiliou for 73 and bowled three overs for 24 runs.
The match will be concluded on November 1.
In another two day game Ross Whiteley's side Prospects CC were second best on the opening day of the South Australian Cricket Association 'A' grade clash with East Torrens.
Whiteley batted at number three and dug in to make a patient 27 off 66 balls with three fours after Prospects had been reduced to 8-3 after winning the toss.
He shared in a half century stand with Ben Wyman but Prospects were dismissed for 152 in 64.3 overs.
Their opponents closed on 143-0 from 31 overs with Whiteley bowling three overs for four runs.
The match will also be concluded on November 1.
