BEN SUTTON NAMED IN ENGLAND SQUAD FOR T20 WORLD SERIES

worcestershire spinner ben sutton has been named in the england squad for the 2019 physical disability world series cricket t20 world series being held in worcestershire this summer – with the semi-finals and final at New Road.

sutton, who has been part of the worcestershire ccc pathway programme since the age of 10, has been included in a 15 strong england squad for the nine-day tournament.

kidderminster, bromsgrove, barnt green and old elizabethans are hosting the group games involving six nations in england, india, pakistan, afghanistan, zimbabwe and bangladesh.

sutton is a year 11 rgs worcester pupil and has a tarsal coalition where the bones are fused in his left ankle.

he has only started playing disability cricket since 2018 and said: “it is exciting to be in the squad and to have the opportunity to represent my country.”

worcestershire ccc academy coach elliot wilson said: “he has been with us since under-10s and played in the full county side in various age groups as the leading spinner.

“we always knew he had the ankle condition and encouraged him 12 months ago to get involved with the physical disability side to see if he qualified and now he has been called up by england.”

england will open their programme against pakistan at chester road on august 5.

the semi-finals and final will be held at New Road on august 13 and admission to all games is free.

in addition a rest of the world x1 will take on england at the county’s headquarters on august 15.
