Blackfinch Supports Development And Welfare For Cricketers

investment company blackfinch has provided career development support to cricketer jack shantry as he looks into a future career in investment management.

the fast-growing firm, a specialist in tax-efficient investments, extended support as part of its continued sponsorship of worcestershire county cricket club. this is the second year that blackfinch has worked as our main sponsor.

key members of blackfinch’s specialist team, including investment professionals.

david higson, guy lavarack, sharon priest and stefan agopsowicz, welcomed shantry to the blackfinch offices so he could gain further insight into the world of investment management.

the initiative was organised in conjunction with the professional cricketer’s association (pca) personal development and welfare programme. run for academy and professional players, the programme is focused on helping elite cricketers to excel and develop sustainable performance within and outside cricket. this includes planning for, exploring, starting and sustaining new career paths.

jack shantry impressed the blackfinch team, bringing the skill and commitment he has shown as a cricketer for worcestershire since joining the club in 2010. a left-handed bowler with a solid track record, shantry played a key role in worcestershire’s promotion within the leagues in 2014.

in 2016 he scored a career best in a worcestershire recovery against gloucestershire at New Road. he also made history in echoing the achievements of worcestershire cricketer dick burrows against the same opponents in 1907.

blackfinch investment manager david higson said, “as a provider of investment solutions, a key area for us in securing sustainable returns for our investors is providing financing to property developers. we work with like-minded, successful individuals to help them realise their ambitious growth plans. jack already has many of the attributes needed in this profession, an elite cricketer with dedication and focus with excellent interpersonal skills. we wish him every success in his chosen career path.”

jack shantry said, “meeting the blackfinch team, courtesy of the wccc and the pca programme, has given me invaluable insight. it was especially useful to hear about different routes that team members had taken into investment management, and very helpful in carving out a new career path. i hope to have many more years playing for worcestershire, and spending time at blackfinch has provided me with an insight for life after cricket.”

lynsey williams, personal development manager for the pca said, “we are grateful to blackfinch for giving jack an insight into their company and career sector. it is vital that elite cricketers are supported to explore and develop their off-field interests alongside playing as this helps them to maintain a balanced approach to their life and experience success both on and off the field.”
