Bumpy Gives Backing To “wonderful” Away Travel Initiative

Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes has given his backing to Worcestershire CCC's new subsidised Away Match Travel initiative for the 2017 season and said: "It is a wonderful idea."

Rhodes can remember the lift the players would get from seeing the supporters coaches – then organised by the Supporters' Association – turning up at away matches during his two decades as a player with the County.

Now Worcestershire CCC have brought the scheme back for this summer – starting with the opening Specsavers County Championship match with Glamorgan at the SSE SWALEC Stadium on April 14.

It is part of a scheme aimed at improving the range of benefits available to the County's members, comprising of return coach travel and a match admission ticket.

Rhodes said: "I think it is an absolutely wonderful idea. I remember myself as a player when the coach or coaches used to turn up and follow us in the old Sunday League.

"It was brilliant to feel that the same group of people were coming and cheering us along .

"We relish and support the work the club is doing in trying to get people to follow us which is great."

Under the scheme, members will be able to watch the County compete away from New Road for considerably less than the day would be likely to cost them if purchasing a match ticket and making their own way to and from the away venue.

Worcester-based company Astons Coaches have linked up with the County – having helped run successful away days to the County’s limited overs quarter-final matches in recent seasons.

To kick start this scheme, the Club has put together a package to visit the SWALEC on the opening day of the season.

Return coach travel from New Road and match admission will cost just £25 for members (£35 for non-members)

The same package will also be available for day two of the match, meaning members could even book themselves on for both days and check into a hotel in Cardiff for the Friday night to enjoy an Easter weekend break, before returning following the close of play on the second day.

All guests will be able to leave their car at New Road free of charge, before boarding the coach which will depart at 8am prompt on both days, aiming to arrive at the SSE SWALEC for 10am, before departing the SWALEC at 7pm and arriving back at New Road around 9pm.

To book your place now, call our Membership Department on 01905 337921.

Further details will be released in the coming weeks regarding other away matches to which the club will be running similar packages, whilst additional pick-ups could be added en-route for future trips where feasible.
