Bumpy Names Unchanged Squad To Face Surrey In Rlc

Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has announced a 12 man squad for the Royal London One-Day Cup group match with Surrey under lights at the KIa Oval tomorrow (2pm start).

Rhodes has named the 11 players in action against Northants Steelbacks at New Road yesterday plus opening batsman Richard Oliver.

Paceman Charlie Morris is again rested as the Rapids continue their rotation policy with the pace bowlers in the 50 over competition.

They will be looking for their first win in the competition after a wash-out against Durham and defeats at the hands of Yorkshire, Somerset and Northants.

But all-rounder Joe Leach, who took a hat-trick against Northants with the first three balls of the game. is refusing to give up hope of the Rapids reaching the quarter-finals.

He said: "We have put ourselves in a position where we need to win all four to have a chance of qualifying.

"We've got to believe we can do it. We've half strung performances together, we've had a very good season in T20 cricket and obviously haven't quite hit the ground running in this competition.

"But I think Warwickshire won the T20 having lost their first few last year so why can't we do the same (in this competition)?"

The Rapids will have little time to recover from the game at the Kia Oval as they have to take on Gloucestershire at home in the same competition on Wednesday(10.30am).

Skipper Daryl Mitchell said: "The schedule hasn't been too kind to us. We will finish about 10pm in London, get back in the early hours and then start against Gloucs at 10.30am the next day.

"It will be a tough workload for the lads but I suppose every County has manic periods."

Mitchell is aware of the need for the Rapids to make more productive starts with the bat and in all RLC games they have lost early wickets.

He said: "We need to get more of a foundation with the bat. We have to find a way of getting better starts."
