Worcestershire Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes gives his reaction to day two of the Specsavers County Championship clash with Leicestershire at New Road.
The County will resume their first innings today on 193-7 after half centuries from Tom Fell – on his first appearance of the campaign – and Daryl Mitchell in reply to Leicestershire's 407.
Rhodes said: "It was a tough day. First of all trying to get those (last three) wickets in the morning was tough.
"We got the last two before lunch which would have been an hour too long for us really. We planned on trying to do it in an hour.
"There then was some good stuff with the Mitchell-Fell partnership. I thought it was a really good partnership but a tragic run-out.
"That was poor running between the wickets and it just opened a little niche for the Leicester bowlers to really break through us and they did so in good fashion with some reverse swing.
"It shows reverse swing is quite devastating when you get it going.
"It is a used pitch so it will get more up and down but it is more reverse swing, and when it reverses, it reverses late so it can do some strange things so you've got to be careful and play it well.
"Tom Fell played really well. I thought his innings was excellent. He is disappointed. He wafted at one at the end but before that he played beautifully.
"He really deserved to be back in the side and played very well."
Rhodes added: "We've got to try and find out ways of not doing 120 overs in the day (innings) and the opposition getting 400 first and foremost.
"When that happens, you often get a reward from the batting side being a little bit jaded after the amount of time you fielded for and you get your rewards for the batting efforts of the first innings.
"But we've got to sharpen up a little bit and get through this. We've got some good batters down the order who can fightback in this innings and get us to a reasonable total and get us back in the game."
