England skipper Alastair Cook said Moeen Ali can be "very proud" of his performance in the first Test triumph over South Africa in Durban.
The Worcestershire all-rounder finished with match figures of 7-116 from 51 overs and collected the man of the match award.
He picked up the prized wicket of AB De Villiers with the third ball on the final day to effectively break South Africa's resistance.
Moeen had a spell of 3-3 in 24 balls as England won by 241 runs.
Cook said: "For Mo to produce the third ball of the day and get AB out, well you couldn't have asked for a better start, could you?
"It's never easy bowling on the last day of a Test match when the ball is turning because people are expecting you to take wickets.
"But the way Mo bowled was fantastic. Every single ball was there or thereabouts. He can be very proud of his performance."
Moeen's performance was the perfect response after admitting he had faced a difficult time in the recent three match series against Pakistan in the UAE.
He said: "It is more about just trying to be strong at the crease and have a consistent action so I can repeat the same thing all the time and bowl better areas.
"It was a tough series for us to bowl spin against Pakistan. The way they batted was hard to bowl at.
"The main thig is here in the first innings when they were hitting me, I felt like I was bowling okay.
"In the UAE, I would have tried other things but here I just stuck to what I know and bowled tighter."
