CEO SAYS COUNTY TO HONOUR MARTIN WATTS AFTER 40 YEARS SERVICE

worcestershire ccc ceo matt rawnsley says it is the club’s intention to honour the 40 years service of groundstaff member martin watts.

martin started working at New Road in 1979 before retiring from his post during the winter.

he was part of head groundsman tim packwood’s team which won the professional cricket grounds team of the year award in 2014 at the institute of groundsmanship awards.

mr rawnsley, speaking at the club’s agm, said: “i want to make a special mention to someone who is not here tonight, and no longer works for the club, and is someone i’ve known for a very long time in martin watts.

“martin decided to retire from the club through the winter period, having been a groundsman here since april 1979.

“he has done a fantastic amount of work.

“martin epitomises in many ways what worcestershire ccc is about – longevity, commitment and character.

“we must do something in 2019 to recognise martin’s contribution to the club.

“i’ve got some thoughts around that and i will share those during the next members forum.

“for someone to have put that contribution in over such a long period of time, it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t do something special to honour him.”
