Chris Pennell’S X1 Come Out On Top In T20 Clash With Chairman’S X1

chris pennell’s x1 overcame a worcestershire ccc chairman’s x1 in a 20 over match in aid of the worcester warriors rugby star’s benefit year at New Road this afternoon.

two teams comprising chiefly of worcestershire and warriors players – but also featuring the mayor of worcester, councillor jabba riaz – both scored over 200 runs.

in the end chris pennell’s x1 came out on top by seven runs after electing to bat.

his side totalled 220-7 with opener neil doak scoring 50 off 35 balls.

pennell himself made 49 off 25 balls and there were also useful contributions from scott van breda (43) and ollie westbury (27) who was caught and bowled by worcestershire ceo and former county player matt rawnsley.

gareth malisonovic ended with 4-29 from his four overs and councillor riaz also picked up two wickets.

ten bowlers were used in total – including the unusual sight of tom fell taking the new ball.

for the chairman’s x1 alex milton made 37 off 17 balls and ed barnard 25 off 15 deliveries.

then fell (44 off 20 balls) and councillor riaz (43 off 22 balls) came together at 121-7 and added an unbroken 92 in 6.3 overs as their side fell just short on 213-7.

former worcestershire player jack shantry, who is taking the first steps towards becoming an umpire, was one of the match officials.
