COUNTY BATSMAN WESTBURY AMONGST RUNS FOR SHROPSHIRE

Worcestershire CC batsman Ollie Westbury marked his Minor Counties Championship debut with an unbeaten 68 for Shropshire against Dorset at Shrewsbury today.

Westbury, who last played for Shropshire in the Minor Counties Trophy two years ago, shared an unbroken third wicket century stand with Warrick Fynn before rain and bad light ended play.

Shropshire opted to bat first in the three-day fixture and Westbury came to the wicket at 80-1 and added 111 with Fynn (61 not out).

Westbury, who made his senior debut for Worcestershire last season and acted as 12th man for part of the game with Sussex at Kidderminster this week, reached his half century off 86 balls and it contained seven fours.

In total he faced 131 deliveries and struck eight boundaries.

It followed on from his century yesterday for Himley in the Birmingham Premier League.

Fellow Worcestershire professional Jack Haynes played for Herefordshire against Berkshire at Colwall in another Championship encounter.

Haynes, now recovered from the foot injury suffered during the winter, made eight and it proved to be the top score for his side who were bowled out for 49 in 34.3 overs.

Berkshire then established a position of dominance in making 208-3 off 51 overs by the close.
