County Batsmen Present And Future In Top Three Of Division Two Run-Getters

Worcestershire present and future occupied second and third spots in the final LV County Championship Division Two list of leading runscorers in 2014.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell finished runners-up to Hampshire's James Vince with the duo scoring 1525 and 1334 runs respectively.

But in third spot came Gloucestershire's Alex Gidman with 1277 runs prior to joining Worcestershire on a two year contract from next season.

Mitchell scored the most centuries in Division Two – five – with Gidman only one behind.

Worcestershire's success was also reflected in the list of leading wicket-takers. Saeed Ajmal (63 wickets), Jack Shantry (56) and the county's Players' Player and Young Player of the Year Charlie Morris (52) all finishing in the top eight.

But equally important was the economy rate with the trio going for only 2.48, 2.68 and 2.74 runs per over – an indication of the disciplined bowling produced by Worcestershire throughout the summer.
