Worcestershire batting coach Kevin Sharp has received a "thank you" message from Adam Lyth who is poised to make his England debut in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord's next Thursday.
Sharp played a major part in Lyth's development when occupying a similar position at Yorkshire.
The opener has not forgotten the work the pair did together – or a request from Sharp for when the came time for him to play for England.
Sharp, who is also Worcestershire's 2nd XI coach, said: "I'm proud that Adam has got his call-up. I've been very lucky to work with Adam since he was quite young at Yorkshire.
"I always had a very good trusting relationship and he was always gifted with his hand-eye co-ordination and it is no surprise he is going onto the highest level.
"It always took him quite a while to go from one level to the next to really establish himself.
"When he actually played first team cricket, he did really well his first season and then he had a year or two when he found it a little bit more difficult.
"He had to fight his way through that, which he did, and he is now going onto play at the highest level.
"Adam is a very Gower-like looking batsman, a lot of natural talent, very fluent, pleasure on the eye, really nice to watch sort of player."
Sharp added: "I did say to Adam many years ago when he plays cricket for England that he needs to leave me two tickets on the gate.
"He sent a message to me on Thursday saying 'thanks for all your help' and said 'there will be two tickets on the gate when you need them.'
"I will definitely find a time to go and watch him play for England."
