Worcestershire will be looking to show their renowned fighting qualities on days three and four of the LV = County Championship match with Somerset at Taunton after the home side established a strong position by the half-way stage of the game.
The County will resume tomorrow morning on 44-4 in reply to Somerset's first innings total of 565-5 declared.
Somerset did not lose a wicket on the second day as James Hildreth (220 not out) and Peter Trego (130 not out) featured in an unbroken stand of 221.
Worcestershire lost four early wickets – two of them to Lewis Gregory – before rain halted proceedings and meant no play was possible after tea.
Resuming on 349 for five, Hildreth and Trego continued to dominate until the declaration early into the afternoon session.
At the start of the day Hildreth, who began on 133, continued to take his runs with ease and a single off Charlie Morris to the on side took him to his 150 from 205 balls with 23 fours.
Trego who started on four, wasted no time in going for his shots and a boundary off Morris flicked off his legs saw 400 onto the board for Somerset.
The all rounder took a single off Brett Doliviera to go to his half century which came off 60 balls with six fours and two sixes.
Hildreth reached his double hundred with a boundary through backward point off Ross Whiteley – his runs coming off 287 balls with 27 fours and one six.
Three balls later Trego pushed a single to mid wicket to bring up his first century of the season which came off 131 balls with 12 fours and three sixes.
When Worcestershire replied, Craig Overton had opener Brett D'Oliveira caught at second slip, by Marcus Trescothick without a run on the board. Gregory claimed two wickets in the ninth over.
Tom Fell was caught at first slip by Jim Allenby as he pushed forward and three balls later Alex Gidman was bowled for no score.
Daryl Mitchell and Ross Whiteley looked to have steadied the situation before left arm spinner Jack Leach came on for the 15th over and had the Worcestershire captain caught by keeper Michael Bates.
