County Hero Ashwin Is Quickest To 300 Test Wickets

Worcestershire 2017 overseas player, Ravichandran Ashwin, has achieved 300 Test wickets quicker than any other player.

The Indian spinner reached the milestone during the crushing innings and 239 runs win over Sri Lanka in Nagpur.

Ashwin continued the form which helped Worcestershire seal promotion to Division One of the Specsavers County Championship after being brought in for the final four games of the season.

He reached the 300 mark in just 54 Tests after returning figures of 4-67 and 4-63 against the Sri Lankans.

Ashwin overtook the previous record holder, Australian paceman Dennis Lillee, who clocked up 300 Test wickets in 56 Tests.

The 31-year-old made his Test debut six years ago this month against the West Indies.

He was the sixth fastest to 100 wickets and second quickest to 200.

Ashwin picked up 20 wickets in four Championship appearances for Worcestershire and also made important runs.

He also helped to reignite belief in the side after a disappointing T20 campaign and his signing proved to be a masterstroke.
