Worcestershire CCC have honoured their late committee member Vic Whittingham by planting a tree at his beloved New Road.
The Reverend Mike Vockins – who was the County's secretary for 30 years – presided over the ceremony next to the McMinn Developments Marquee during yesterday's tea interval.
Ex County wicket-keeper Roy Booth, a long time friend of Vic, helped to plant the tree as many supporters and members looked on.
It followed a two minutes silence to honour Vic's memory after his death last December.
Vic became a member of the Worcestershire CCC committee in 1984 after being encouraged by Roy Booth to stand for election.
He became chairman of the Ground Committee and was responsible for the development of the club's own full-time catering operation.
After standing down as Ground Committee chairman in 1998, Vic was appointed a Vice-President.
During the Second World War, he served with the Chindits – the largest of the allied Special Forces operating behind enemy lines.
Vic fought the enemy in the jungles of Japanese-occupied Burma.
Worcestershire CEO Tom Scott: "It is only fitting that we honour Vic in such an appropriate manner after his contribution to the club including development of the in-house catering which is flourishing today.
"The tree will serve as a lasting momento of Vic and his life."
