County Keeper Milton Hits 40 Skippering Cardiff Mccu

Worcestershire wicket-keeper batsman Alex Milton made 40 when skippering Cardiff MCCU on the opening day of the three-day match with Glamorgan at the SWALEC Stadium.

Milton, who has taken over as captain this season, came in at 23-2 and shared in a third wicket stand of 72 with Joseph Ludlow.

He was third out at 95, having hit six fours in his 73 ball knock, caught behind off Marchant de Lange.

Milton signed his first professional contract with Worcestershire last autumn after showing good form in the Seconds.

He will be on a university scholarship which the County are helping to finance this summer as he completes his studies.

But the 21-year-old will then join up with the staff at New Road full-time for the 2019 campaign.

Milton also enjoyed a record-breaking summer with Cardiff CC, scoring more than 1,000 runs.

Cardiff MCCU totalled 249 all out from 91 overs and Glamorgan replied with 7-0 by the close.

*Milton also hit 28 not out in Cardiff MCCU’s second innings but play was washed out on the final day.
