Worcestershire paceman Dillon Pennington made a successful debut for England Under-19s who launched their one-day Tri Series in South Africa with a 129 run win over Namibia.
Pennington was presented with his Young Lions cap by batting coach and former England batsman James Taylor before the rain affected match in Potchefstroom.
The New Road Academy product celebrated by playing a key role with the new ball after the Young Lions had totalled 290-5 in a game reduced to 39 overs per side.
Pennington and Hampshire’s Tom Scriven did the early damage when Namibia launched their reply.
They were bowled out for 161 and Pennington ended with figures of 2-30 and Scriven 2-22 before Middlesex leg spinner Luke Hollman returned 4-42.
Pennington’s County team-mate and fellow paceman Adam Finch, is also part of the Young Lions squad.
Savin Perera (Middlesex) was voted the man of the match after making 74 off 75 balls.
The Young Lions face South Africa in a day-night game on Sunday in their next game in the Tri-Series.
It is part of their preparations for the ICC Under-19s World Cup which is being held in New Zealand in early 2018.
