Andrew Thomas unearthed many score-cards from the formative years of Worcestershire CCC's history during the 19th century when researching his book 'Pears 150' which celebrates the County's sesqui-centenary.
Even though 'Pears 150' – which costs £28 – contains more than 500 pages, there was still insufficient room for all material – including these scorecards – to be included.
But the good news is that many of these scorecards from the period 1865-1898 – before Worcestershire became a first class county in 1899 – will soon be available for supporters to study via Cricket Archive.
Andrew Thomas contributed 150 of these scorecards to Cricket Archive before Christmas and the first batch of around 25 are now posted on their website.
Many other old cricket scorecards were found and recorded during research for 'Pears 150' including fascinating matches mentioned in the book, between The 4th Worcestershire Regiment and South African Boer POWs, in their laagers, on Tucker’s Island and Morgan’s Island in Bermuda, in early June 1902.
There is a link with Worcestershire CCC in Capt. CH Palmer, who played for the County and was killed in action at Gallipoli in 1915.
These scorecards have already been added to the Cricket Archive website.
Copies of Pears 150 can be purchased during the winter months by contacting Andrew Thomas via the club offices at New Road – leave an email address or contact phone number – and then from the Supporters' Association Shop at the back of the Basil D'Oliveira Stand when the new season gets underway in April on match days.
