County Signing Santner Hits Two Boundaries In Final Over To Seal Black Caps Win

County Signing Santner Hits Two Boundaries In Final Over To Seal Black Caps Win

Worcestershire 2016 overseas player Mitchell Santner hit two boundaries in the final over to clinch New Zealand's three wicket win over Pakistan in the third ODI in Auckland today.

The Black Caps were set a revised target of 263 in 43 overs under the Duckworth Lewis Method and required six for victory off the final over from Wahab Riaz.

Santner, who will play for the County in the NatWest T20 Blast, eased the pressure by hitting the first ball of the over through the covers for four.

After two dot balls, Santner made sure of victory with a legside boundary as New Zealand sealed the series 2-0.

Another Worcestershire 2016 overseas signing in Matt Henry had returned the most economical figures for New Zealand – and also picked up two wickets.

Henry, who will be at New Road from early April until late June, dismissed opener Azhar Ali (3) – second out with 20 on the board in the sixth over.

The paceman returned to the attack to oust Pakistan's top scorer in Babar Azam (83) who was caught at backward point.

Henry finished with 2-44 from his 10 overs as Pakistan totalled 290 all out in 47.3 overs.

Santner conceded 56 runs in five overs but did dismiss Pakistan number three Mohammad Hafeez for 76 after he went for a sweep shot and fell at deep square leg.
