County Skipper Mitchell Returns For Two-Day Friendly With Warwicks

County Skipper Mitchell Returns For Two-Day Friendly With Warwicks

Daryl Mitchell returns to skipper Worcestershire in the two day friendly match with local rivals Warwickshire at Edgbaston starting tomorrow (Monday).

Mitchell was unavailable for the 50 over and two-day friendly matches with Gloucestershire at New Road as he was on MCC duty against Yorkshire in Abu Dhabi.

He scored half centuries against a UAE X1 and Derbyshire during the county's pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi and 54 for the MCC in their first innings batting at number five against the Tykes.

Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has made six changes from the side which impressed in the drawn red ball fixture with Gloucestershire as other members of the squad are given an opportunity to impress in the build-up the 2015 campaign.

It is another indication of the greater strength in depth available to Rhodes with the return to fitness of Gareth Andrew, the signing of Alex Gidman and England Under-19 duo Joe Clarke and Ed Barnard becoming fully fledged members of the county staff for the first time this summer.

Clarke and Barnard have been drafted in against the Bears along with Chris Russell, who skippered the Seconds in the two day fixture at Loughborough MCCU, Joe Leach and Brett D'Oliveira.

Warwickshire will bat for 64 overs on the first day and Worcestershire 32 overs and on the second day Worcestershire will bat 64 overs and Warwickshire 32 overs.

Worcestershire will take on Oxford MCCU in The Parks in a first class fixture before winding up their pre-season matches with a two-day game against Northamptonshire at Northampton.

Worcestershire: Mitchell, Oliver, Kohler-Cadmore, Gidman, Clarke, Kervezee, Whiteley, Leach, D'Oliveira, Barnard, Russell.
