County Spinner Choudhry Returns To Fitness Ahead Of Schedule

Worcestershire spinner Shaaiq Choudhry has returned to fitness two weeks ahead of schedule.

Choudhry has started bowling and batting in the New Road nets after suffering the setback when bowling in a pre-season game against Gloucestershire at New Road in late March.

It is hoped he can return to action for the second eleven in T20 fixtures with Somerset at Taunton Vale next Wednesday (April 30) and Cardiff MCCU at Bromsgrove CC on May 1.

County physiotherapist Ben Davies said: "Shaaiq is back to fitness now. With the scan it looked like it was going to be a six week injury.

"But hopefully, he is going to be playing in a couple of T20 games with the second team next week.

"He was back bowling yesterday, he has batted and gone through all his shots.

"He has worked really hard and got back a couple of weeks quicker than we probably thought he would because he has worked so hard. It is really positive news."

Davies added: "Shaaiq has been trying to bowl a bit faster and was bowling really nicely pre-season.

"But just from trying to get the ball down a bit quicker, he was a bit over exhuberant and just strained the side.

"He has got back in four weeks instead of probably six."
