Worcestershire's promising left arm spinner Ben Twohig has signed a new three year contract and the 18-year-old is determined to continue developing his game and repaying the club "for investing so much time in me."
Twohig, another product of the County's Academy, has put pen to paper on a deal through until the end of the 2019 campaign.
The Dewsbury born player is currently in his first year as a fully fledged professional after signing a two year contract last summer which came into effect on October 1, 2015.
Twohig has just earned his first call-up into the England Under-19 squad – one of five Worcestershire players selected – for the forthcoming two Tests and three ODIs with Sri Lanka Under-19s.
Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "I am delighted Ben has signed. We are really pleased with his progress and value him as a long term prospect for the county.
"The three year contract is deserved and we look forward to working with him during this period.
"He is a good left arm spinner. They take time to develop so there is no immediate rush but his qualities are excellent all-round.
"Ben is a grittty batter, an excellent fielder and has got cricket nous which will hold him in good stead for the future."
Former Malvern College pupil Twohig, a regular member of the County Second Eleven, said: "I am really happy to commit so much time to the club.
"As a spinner, I need time to learn my trade and it is great that the club have invested so much time in me.
"One year would still have been brilliant and to get three is fantastic and I can continue learning as part of the learning curve I am on.
"I am in my first year as a professional and it is hard being away from home but I feel as if I have settled in at the club now.
"The cricket is brilliant and you learn from your mistakes and learn new things every day."
Twohig was selected for the England Development Programme Under-17s side against Pakistan in the UAE the winter before last and in the summer of 2015 skippered the Midlands Under-17s to the EDP Super Fours title and lifted the man of the match award.
He has been part of EDP training camps during the past winter and was on stand-by for the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh.
