County Star Ferguson Continues Fine Form As Redbacks Top Scorer

callum ferguson continued the excellent form he demonstrated for worcestershire rapids when playing for south australia in the jlt one-day cup.

the 33-year-old batsman was the county’s highest scorer in the royal london one-day cup with 377 runs at an average of 94.25 including centuries against leicestershire (192) and northamptonshire (159 not out).

he then amassed 390 runs at an average of 48.75 for the rapids in the vitality blast including a century against notts outlaws and a match-winning 64 not out in the quarter-final versus gloucestershire.

now ferguson, who is returning to New Road for the majority of the 2019 campaign, has shown similar performances back home for the redbacks.

he finished as their leading run-getter in the one-day cup with 328 runs at an average of 54.66 and also the fifth highest tally overall for the entire competition.

ferguson hit two centuries – 133 against victoria in melbourne and 101 versus queensland in sydney.

but his efforts proved in vain as the rednecks were beaten in the first qualifying final and failed to reach the semi-finals.

*worcestershire 2018 overseas player, travis head, is making his test debut in the current opening match of the series against pakistan in dubai.

head, who has played 39 odis and 16 t20is spent the opening day in the field as pakistan totalled 255-3 from 90 overs.

*worcestershire 2017 overseas player ravichandran ashwin returned to action to help india to a crushing test win over the west indies at rajkot.

ashwin returned 4-37 and 2-71 as india triumphed by the huge margin of an innings and 272 runs.

he had been scheduled to return to New Road for a second spell at the end of this summer but was ruled out through an injury sustained in the test series versus england.
