County Star Moeen Is Up For Auction With Indian Premier League

Moeen Ali is amongst 17 members of England’s current ODI squad who will be part of the IPL auction taking place in Bangalore this weekend.

The Worcestershire CCC all-rounder has helped England take a winning 3-0 lead against Australia in the current ODI series Down Under.

Moeen put himself forward two years ago for the IPL auction but withdrew because of ECB concerns over his workload as a player involved in all three formats with England.

Then 12 months ago he pulled out of playing in the Pakistan Super League T20 competition for Quetta Gladiators and opted instead to link up with members of his family on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Moeen has played in 22 T20Is for England but his last appearance was nearly 12 months ago in India.

The number of players up for auction with the eight franchises over two days has been reduced from the original 1,122 to 578.

Twenty four English players are part of the final auction pool including former Worcestershire loan player Alex Hales, Ben Stokes, Jason Roy, Chris Woakes, Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow.

Stokes and Root have been chosen as ‘marquee’ players – there are 16 in total – who will be the first to be auctioned off.
