County Still All To Play For In Promotion Battle

County Still All To Play For In Promotion Battle

Worcestershire are still well in the hunt for promotion from Division Two of the Specsavers County Championship despite their 10 wicket loss to Kent at Canterbury.

The County are now occupying fourth spot in the table but are still only 14 points behind leaders Essex who they face at Chelmsford next month.

Only 19 points separate the top five – all of whom have won three matches – in the battle for the one promotion spot up for grabs.

Worcestershire also have to play the current bottom three – Northamptonshire, Derbyshire and Glamorgan at New Road – in addition to visiting sixth-placed Sussex.

Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Sport is all about winning and losing and I don't know many teams who just keep winning all of the time.

"We've played plenty of good cricket already this season to know that we're capable of producing better than at Canterbury.

"There are five opportunities for wins and that's what we will be looking for. We will be looking to try and win games of cricket and force our way back into contention."
