County Under-17S Return To Ecb Championship Action At Stourport

County Under-17S Return To Ecb Championship Action At Stourport

Worcestershire Under-17s return to ECB County Championship action tomorrow (Monday) when they take on Gloucestershire Under-17s at Stourport at the start of a three-day match.

The County will be looking for their first win in the competition after drawing a high-scoring match with Hampshire and losing to Somerset on the final afternoon.

Academy Coach Elliot Wilson has named a 12 strong squad with Zain Ul-Hassan leading the Under-17s and Robbie Hardwick keeping wicket.

Wilson, commenting on the game against Somerset, said: “It was disappointing last week, the last afternoon of the last day. We rolled over and we weren’t quite as competitive as we would like the lads to be.

“But probably over the three days the result was the right outcome.

“They were just a little bit better than us but we had four lads who stood up and performed really well – Dan Holland, Ed Bragg, Peter Clark and Josh Baker.

“They showed some real character and heart and scrapped really well.

“Josh Baker, in his first game for the Under-17s, took a six-for (6-105) on the first day, Dan Holland had two scores (136 and 60) in the game, a great effort for an Under-16 in Under-17s cricket.

“Peter Clark bowled much better and then batted for a long period of time on the last day (making 68) to try and save the game on the last day.

“Ed Bragg, for three weeks in a row, has really bowled quite impressively and made people take note of his skills as a bowler.”

In addition to those performances against Somerset, Xavie Clarke scored a century (108) and Bragg took 6-25 versus Hampshire.
