Cricket Board Director Tom Hill Wins Wonderful Worcestershire Award

worcestershire cricket board limited cricket development director tom hill has won a major wonderful worcestershire award but says it is reflection of the hard work and dedication of the entire wcbl staff.

hill was nominated for the ‘rising star’ category and was presented with the award when the finals of the wonderful worcestershire awards were staged in the new marquee at New Road.

the wonderful worcestershire awards sets out to recognise men and women who make a significant contribution to the worcestershire community whether through business or by their talents and achievements.

having come to prominence within the business community in worcestershire through his innovative ‘worcestershire street sixes’ event two years ago, tom hill was one of the five finalists vying for the award.

under tom’s leadership, spreading the power of the game and inspiring more young people to play cricket, his enthusiastic and committed team have achieved significant achievements for the past three years including;

*introducing 24,000 children to cricket during last 3 years

*bringing cricket to 77% schools in worcestershire since 2006

*over 700 all stars cricket sign ups, making worcestershire the top county in west midlands region in terms of % to the target

*since 2012, securing over £1 million worth of capital funding to clubs

*over 250 children from hard to reach communities actively engaging in cricket through community programmes such as ‘wicketz’ which had its 4th hub opened at nunnery wood sports complex last january

*greater importance to women’s cricket, setting up 15 women’s and girls hub clubs across the county as well as women’s rapids playing double headers alongside men at new road

*over 250 schools entering wcbl run competitions

tom hill said: “i was surprised and delighted to win the award. i don’t do the work i do for awards and plaudits but this is recognition of the great work the worcestershire cricket board limited team do.

“it is really nice that they are recognised for their work in the community. we have got a really good team who work hard and are passionate about what they do – from the board of directors to staff and volunteers and the local clubs.

“i feel very lucky to be in a position where you have the opportunity to meet a variety of people and help communities in different ways. “
