Cricket Society Flourishing With Raft Of New Members

Worcestershire Cricket Society is flourishing and delighted to report that THIRTY NINE new members have so far joined for the 2017-2018 winter programme which includes six guest speakers for the monthly meetings through until March.

It has boosted the Society’s membership total to 129 paid-up members and three life members.

There are also 20 people who were members for 2016-2017 who have still to renew and the final membership tally could eventually stretch close to 150.

It is a reward for the membership drive undertaken by the Society during Worcestershire’s Memorabilia Day on August Bank Holiday Monday and the final Specsavers County Championship match with Durham.

Interim secretary Mike Hitchings and his wife Ann plus Ken and Chris Hipwell handed out the new-look Society bifolds on Memorabilia Day while Mike, John Meredith and Chris were on duty against Durham.

The bifolds give information relating to the Sociey and also contains a list of the 2017-2018 speakers.

Mike Hitchings said: “The Society is flourishing and it is great so many new members have joined.”

There is still the opportunity to become a 2017-2018 member – priced £15 for a single and £25 for a double – and anyone interested should contact Mike Hitchings on 07979 464715 (m) or email mikehitchings@aol.com.

The first winter evening – at which the speaker was former Leicestershire player and Test umpire Barry Dudleston – attracted more than 100 people to the Hick Pavilion and extra chairs had to be drafted in to meet the demand.

Former Warwickshire and England batsman Dennis Amiss will be guest speaker on Tuesday, November 14 and the evening will be staged in The View as the Hick Pavilion is already booked on that evening.
