Daryl Keen To Pick Up More Silverware At New Road

Daryl Keen To Pick Up More Silverware At New Road

Opener Daryl Mitchell is still hungry to pick up more silverware with Worcestershire – a decade after being part of the Pro 40 League winning side.

The 33-year-old is the only survivor in the current squad at New Road from that memorable triumph.

He has since experienced the joy of leading the County to promotion to Division One of the County Championship in 2010 – after replacing Vikram Solanki as skipper – and 2014.

But the desire to taste success is as strong as ever for Mitchell who is approaching his 15th season as a professional including two years on a University scholarship.

He said: "You look back at my career and the highlight was definitely winning the Pro-40 League in 2007.

"That is why you play, to win trophies and competitions. We've had five promotions as well during that time which are big things.

"But you play to be successful and try and win things as a team so a one-day trophy and getting back to Division One, those are the sort of immediate goals."

Mitchell, a consistent performer for the past decade, added: "Is the side ready to kick on? The side are relatively young in years but they have played a lot of cricket.

"You look at someone like Coxy, Leachy, Dolly. They've all been around a fair amount of time.

"They are not old men by any stretch of the imagination. They are still young lads but they have played a lot of cricket.

"The experience is there (in the side) and at some stage you've got to fulfil your potential."
