Daryl Shows Safe Pair Of Hands As Leading Catcher In Top Flight

daryl mitchell has claimed more catches than other fielder – excluding wicket-keepers – in division one of the specsavers county championship this season.

the 34-year-old pouched six chances – three in each innings – during the home encounter with hampshire fielding at second slip.

that took mitchell’s tally to 20 for the 2018 campaign in the four-day format – six more than any other player – as he prepares for tomorrow’s clash with surrey at New Road.

he now has taken 256 catches for worcestershire and is 11th on the all-time list for the county.

next in line is lancashire’s liam livingstone with 14.

he is followed by scott borthwick (surrey), jimmy adams (hampshire), ross taylor (nottinghamshire) and rikki clarke (surrey) on 13 apiece.

meanwhile worcestershire’s ben cox has moved into third spot regarding the most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in division one in 2018.

cox has 33 scalps – all caught – to his credit from his 10 appearances in the championship.

leading the way with 40 from 12 appearances – 36 caught and four stumped – is lancashire’s gloveman dane vilas.

he is six ahead of nottinghamshire’s tom moores whose 34 victims have all been caught.
