Daryl Turns Another Page In Worcestershire Record Books

daryl mitchell secured another spot in the worcestershire ccc record books with his two centuries against lancashire in the current specsavers county championship match at New Road.

mitchell moved alongside his boyhood hero, graeme hick, in becoming only the second player in the county’s history to achieve that feat four times.

the 34-year-old clocked up 104 and 134 not out against gloucestershire at cheltenham college in 2010.

mitchell then struck 109 and 151 not out versus glamorgan at cardiff in 2014.

then in 2016 opener mitchell took 107 not out and 103 off the northamptonshire attack at new road.

now he has amassed 118 and 163 against the red rose county.

mitchell clearly has a liking for what is known as ‘pitch three’ on the New Road square.

the two hundreds against northants in 2016 and lancashire in the current game were achieved on that pitch in addition to 123 not out against durham last season.

in the process mitchell’s 32nd ton has also moved him into joint seventh spot in the list of all-time century-makers for worcestershire.

he has moved level with ron headley and tom moody on that number of hundreds.

mitchell also yesterday completed 12,000 first class runs.
