Worcestershire CCC first team scorer Dawn Pugh will officially return to her role today (Monday) at Trent Bridge after battling against cancer during the winter and the first two thirds of the 2016 season.
She will take over the reins for the Royal London One-Day Cup match with Nottinghamshire from Sue Drinkwater who has admirably filled the breach in her absence from April to the end of July.
Dawn was promoted from her second team role in 2012 after Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes asked if she was interested in taking on the post.
The following summer Dawn achieved the pinnacle of her career when she scored for Australia in the Ashes Test with England at Lord's.
Until her recent illness, Dawn had covered every Worcestershire senior game home and away for the past four years and she travels with the squad on the team coach all over the country.
The players showed their appreciation of Dawn and batsman Tom Fell in their fight against cancer by organising the YELL4FELL Day during the NatWest T20 Blast clash with Derbyshire.
Rhodes said: "It is great to have Dawn back. She has gone through a lot. She had chemo in the winter and during the season and it's been a tough old road back for her.
"But like Tom Fell she is back with us now. I know she has missed the playing group as well as the job and to have her back is tremendous.
"She shares something in common with Tom and when things like this happen to people who are part of our enviroment, we group together.
"As you saw with Tom when we got his hundred yesterday (against Lancashire) and the ovation he got, the Worcester people are well aware of when people who are part of our family have struggles and problems.
"Grouping together and being with the likes of Tom and Dawn is really important in our 'Worcestershire Way'."
