Day Two Reaction Hants V Worcs: Head Coach Kevin Sharp

Worcestershire Head Coach Kevin Sharp told BBC Hereford-Worcester: “It has been a roller-coaster, it has fluctuated from one way to another.

“This morning it looked like we could be in trouble and it was possible we could have followed on but then there was a fantastic partnership between Coxy and Barny – and George Rhodes helped that to start with.

“Ben plays in a positive manner and his shot selection and execution today was superb. He is a fine young cricketer so long may it continue.

“We got back in the game and then they got off to a flier and we didn’t bowl as well as he can for the first few overs and it looked as though the game could go away from us but then we have done really well in the last 30 overs and we are right back in the game.

“With the end of our innings, they laid some good plans and the ,on reflection, would have a look at that and we probably had two or three soft dismissals there which we can improve on.

“But the lads know that and it’s good learning. There are some very good teams in this division who are very smart and they will lay some good foundations and plans.

“We have to be ready for that and probably after all the work of that partnership, we just folded a bit softer than we would have liked to have done.

“We’ve lost so much cricket and since we got back from Abu Dhabi we’ve only had one day’s cricket. It’s the same for other teams and it’s not surprised me that we’ve drifted in and out of good spells.

“But what I’ve really been impressed with is the resilience of the team. They support and look after each other and when we’ve had a poorish spell, they’ve always bounced back and we’ve got back in the game.

“We don’t want to chase too many more. It’s a good pitch but there is always a wicket-taking delivery in that pitch. Not too many more but we would be hopeful that we can knock these off.”
